⭕ Types of Network card at Servers and Storage system
There are different types of network cards
✅ Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC):
Ethernet NICs are used to connect servers and storage systems to local area networks (LANs) using standard Ethernet cables. They typically come with different speed options, such as 1GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) or 10GbE, and can support different protocols such as TCP/IP, iSCSI, NFS, or SMB.
✅ Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA):
Fibre Channel HBAs are used to connect servers and storage systems to SANs using Fibre Channel cables. They provide high-speed and low-latency connectivity between servers and storage systems and can support multiple protocols such as SCSI, FCP, or FCIP.
✅ InfiniBand Host Channel Adapter (HCA):
InfiniBand HCAs are used to connect servers and storage systems to high-performance computing (HPC) environments using InfiniBand cables. They provide high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity and can support various protocols such as MPI, RDMA, or IPoIB.
✅ Converged Network Adapter (CNA):
CNAs are used to connect servers and storage systems to converged networks that carry multiple types of traffic such as data, storage, and management. They combine Ethernet and Fibre Channel interfaces into a single card, providing flexibility and reducing the number of NICs and HBAs needed in a system.
