Surge protection
Surge protection
Surges or transients are short voltage increases induced by external factors like lightning strike or internal factors like switching of loads or fault in electrical supply. In Data Centers it is recommended to have surge protection device (SPD) on all incoming supplies (utilities incoming supply, generators, distribution boards). The two common technologies used in SPD are MOV and SAD. Two types of SPD in terms of protection levels standard mode surge protection (provide protection between phase-neutral , and neutral-ground) and dedicated all-mode surge protection (add protection between phases and between phase and ground ).
