Day 4 CCTV – FOV?

In short, field of view is the area of coverage that the camera can ‘see’ within a scene. This all depends on the size of the lens
The higher the number, the narrower a view you have
✅ Why FOV Matters:
Effective Surveillance: A well-chosen FOV ensures that your cameras cover the areas you need to monitor effectively. Too narrow a FOV might miss important details, while too wide a FOV can result in blurry images.
Optimal Placement: Understanding FOV helps you strategically place cameras to maximize coverage and minimize blind spots.
Cost-Efficiency: By selecting the appropriate FOV, you can avoid unnecessary cameras and reduce costs.
Specific Requirements: Different applications have varying FOV requirements. For example, a wide-angle lens might be ideal for monitoring a large parking lot, while a telephoto lens is better suited for long-range surveillance
✅ Lens Types and Viewing Angles:
Superwide-angle: 180° or more (fisheye effect)
◼ Wide-angle: 110-60 degrees (10mm-25mm focal length)
◼ Standard/Medium: 60-25 degrees (25mm-65mm focal length)
Telephoto: 25-10 degrees (65mm-160mm focal length)
Super telephoto: 10-1 degrees (160mm-600mm focal length)

This simplified diagram below shows you the sort of coverage you expect from different lens sizes.
