Day 2 CCTV : What is VMS ((Video Management System)

What is VMS ((Video Management System) a Software that Manages Camera video from Live view and recording
✅ NVR vs. VMS:
NVR (Network Video Recorder):
An NVR is a device specifically designed to record video from IP cameras. It handles video storage, playback, and sometimes basic management of cameras. NVRs are often easier to set up and use, typically pre-configured with a limited set of features.
VMS (Video Management System):
A VMS is a more advanced software platform used for managing video feeds from multiple cameras. It offers comprehensive features such as advanced video analytics, integration with other security systems (like access control), and more complex recording, playback, and user management options. VMS can be installed on servers and is not tied to specific hardware.
NVR and VMS Integration:
NVR Connected to VMS:
An NVR can be connected to a VMS as part of a larger surveillance system. In this setup, the NVR handles the recording of video feeds, while the VMS provides advanced management, monitoring, and analytics capabilities.
⭕ There are Two Types of NVR:
✅ NVR : explained already
✅ NVR Appliance:
An NVR appliance is a dedicated, all-in-one device that comes pre-configured often comes with a built-in VMS with both the necessary hardware and software to manage and record video from IP cameras. It’s designed for ease of use, with a focus on reliability and simplicity.
NVR appliance not only handles video recording and storage but also includes software for managing, viewing, and sometimes even analyzing video feeds.
⭕ VMS Platforms:
Open Platform:
Supports integration with a wide range of third-party hardware and software, offering flexibility and scalability.
This type of VMS is not tied to a specific manufacturer, providing greater flexibility for users who may want to mix and match different brands and technologies
Closed Platform:
Typically designed to work with specific hardware and software, often from the same manufacturer, offering a more controlled and potentially more stable environment but with limited flexibility.
Limited Integration not like open platform
Summary:
◼ Open Platform VMS is ideal for environments that require flexibility, scalability, and the ability to integrate with various third-party systems.
◻ Closed Platform VMS is suited for users who prefer a more controlled and possibly more stable system, but with less flexibility in terms of integration with third-party products.
