VOIP (Voice Over IP)

1️⃣ IP Telephone

Usually, devices are used that integrate telephones with the IP feature, whereby they are directly connected to the network, as mentioned earlier. Of course, these devices are in fact small computers, and even if it looks like a phone, it is actually a computer.

2️⃣ Outlets

These outlets are used in the same way as the RJ-45 systems.

3️⃣ Cables/Wires

Here, data transfer cables are used, and they are of four types (cat5, cat5e, cat6). Fiber Optic cables can also be used, and Fiber Optic cables are used if the distances exceed 90 meters.

4️⃣ Patch Panel

The idea of the Patch Panel is similar to the traditional systems but with inputs that allow incoming cables to enter the Data Network used in the Data Network. The Patch Panel organizes and arranges the incoming cables from all points of the network, sorts and arranges them, and has no function on its own but is used to facilitate the process of installations and maintenance. Ports are described as the most common, being one of the (6-24)-(24-6).

5️⃣ IP Switch

The switch performs the conversion process between devices according to the commands of the IP-PBX and can be used at three different levels:

5.1 Access Switch:

Performs the linking and conversion between devices directly at the last level (Access Switches).

5.2 Distribution Switch:

Performs the linking process at a higher level (among a group of Access Switches).

5.3 Core Switch:

Performs the main linking process among a group of Distribution Switches
And it comes in versions with (6-12-24-36-48) ports, and the required size is chosen accordingly.

6️⃣ IP-PBX

It performs the same function as the PBX in traditional systems, where each device is given its own IP and is programmed to control and transfer between devices and is described internally and externally as in traditional systems.

7️⃣ Router:

A device used to connect between two different networks, Wide Area Network (WAN). It can be said that the switch creates a network, while the router connects the networks. The router connects between networks, whereas the switch connects devices within the desired network. The choice is made based on the number of networks to be connected. The router is used in PBX systems to handle calls over the internet between the different branches of the same company or between various private networks.
